A county-wide elected office with a four-year term, Cass County native Chris Molendorp was elected Collector of Revenue on November 6, 2018. Mr. Molendorp is a graduate of Raymore-Peculiar High School and the University of Missouri at Columbia. Together with his wife Teri, they have five children and reside in Belton.
The Cass County Collector of Revenue collected and disbursed in excess of $134 million in current and delinquent property taxes in 2018 for various political subdivisions within the county with authorized property tax levies. Local political subdivisions are: public school districts, cities and villages, fire and ambulance districts, and special road districts. In addition, the Collector collects levies for county-wide hospital, library and sheltered workshop boards. The Collector also collects special assessments and merchant license fees.
The Collector's Office also processes tax payments from escrowed accounts held by mortgage holders on behalf of real estate owners.
Primary tax records are maintained and held for public use within the Collector's office.
The Revised Statutes of Missouri also charges the Collector with the annual delinquent real estate tax sale. By RSMO, chapter 140, the sale is held on the last Monday in August of each year.
